Introducing " Reconnect for Success "
Reconnect for Success: A Lifeline for Formerly Incarcerated Individuals
Program Overview:Reconnect for Success is a comprehensive 1 Year program designed by Servant Leader Community Economic Development Inc. to aid formerly incarcerated individuals who have served 10 years or more. The program provides essential communication tools, digital literacy training, and ongoing support to facilitate their successful reintegration into society.
Why the Program is Necessary:Technology has made significant advancements over the past decade, creating a substantial gap for those who have been incarcerated for extended periods. Formerly incarcerated individuals often face immense challenges in navigating the modern digital world, which can hinder their ability to secure employment, access essential services, and reconnect with their communities.
Without reliable communication tools and the digital literacy skills required to use them, these individuals are at a severe disadvantage. The inability to respond to emails, apply for jobs online, or access digital resources exacerbates the difficulties they face, increasing the risk of recidivism and making reintegration into society much harder.
Reconnect for Success addresses this critical need by providing smartphones with unlimited data plans, comprehensive training on essential digital tools and applications, and ongoing support. By equipping participants with the tools and skills they need, we empower them to rebuild their lives, achieve financial independence, and contribute positively to their communities.
Program Components:
- Smartphones with Unlimited Data Plans: Ensures participants have the essential tools to communicate, access information, and stay connected with potential employers, support services, and their social networks.
- Comprehensive Digital Literacy Training: An 8-hour training program covering cell phone operation, word processing, PDF management, and other vital digital skills. Participants learn how to create profiles on various job search, resume writing, document scanning, financial management, health and wellness, legal aid, education, networking, personal development, and community support apps. Practical, hands-on sessions ensure effective use of their devices in real-life scenarios. Lunch is provided during the training to ensure participants are comfortable and can focus on learning.
- Phone Accessories: Providing phone accessories such as cases, screen protectors, and ear buds enhances the usability and durability of the smartphones, ensuring participants can maintain their devices in good working condition, essential for ongoing communication and access to resources.
- Ongoing Support and Follow-Up: Continuous support to help participants navigate challenges and maximize the benefits of their new skills and tools.
Special Cases:While the program primarily focuses on individuals who have served 10 years or more, special cases will be evaluated and considered for inclusion.
